Single dose is usually sufficient, repeat after 3-12 months if necessary. Duration of Action Mectizan begins working within hours of administration, with peak blood levels reached in 4 hours. Parasite death occurs within 24-48 hours. Clinical improvement is typically seen within 1-2 weeks. The medication remains active for several weeks, providing prolonged protection against reinfection. Side Effects Most patients experience mild or no side effects. Common reactions include dizziness, nausea, and mild skin irritation.
