Description Whitebeam Aerial ScreenSorbus aria Magnifica (Whitebeam) Sorbus aria Magnifica (Whitebeam) is a stunning deciduous tree that has a distinctive leaf colour and not often seen in modern gardens. The large leaves are a dark green on the upper surface and the underside is covered in a white felt. This means that when the wind blows the leaves ripple in a lovely green, white pattern. In the Autumn the leaves go a pale-yellow colour before turning brown and they can stay on the tree for a few weeks before finally falling. In the spring it can produce a dull white flower that is followed in the Autumn with a reddish brown berry. If kept trimmed and tidy you are very unlikely to see these berries. Sorbus aria Magnifica (Whitebeam) is a selected form of Whitebeam and is a native of Southern England, but it has been found naturalised in other parts of the United Kingdom as well. It is very happy growing on chalk soils and often found growing next to English Yew (Taxus baccata). It will grow in most soils apart from poor draining ones. Sorbus aria Magnifica (Whitebeam) is one of the best trees for growing in windswept or maritime environments. It is also very good at coping with pollution so can be grown in more industrialised areas as well. As a screening panel for the garden the leaf colours give it some amazing interest during the summer months and the almost unique leaf colouration makes it a very different type of tree to plant. It was first recorded as growing in cultivation around 1916. We supply this with a 180cm clear stem and a 150cm x 150cm panel.
