When left untrimmed, it can produce white, candle-like flowers in late spring, followed by small black berries. We recommend trimming it regularly to maintain its dense, formal appearance and prevent fruiting, which can stain paving or decking if the berries fall. Prunus lus. Angustifolia is an excellent alternative to Cherry Laurel in shallow soils and a hardy substitute for Sweet Bay, offering similar aesthetics with greater cold resistance. First recorded in Britain in 1892, this plant remains a timeless choice for creating structured, elegant landscapes. With consistent clipping, the shrub can form a tight, dense hedge comparable to English Yew, or if left to grow naturally – form a dense cone up to 5 metres tall!
